Without hyperbole, Islam has been at war with Christendom since A.D. 634. That year the armies of the first caliph, Abu Bakr, crossed into Byzantine Syria, two years after Muhammad died in Medina. The first great clash with a Christian empire was not a misunderstanding. It was the opening campaign of a religious war that has never been repealed.
Late-modern Christians and our neighbors have been trained for years not to acknowledge that reality. We are supposed to think that only a minority of Muslims are “extremists,” the product of “colonial blowback,” perpetrated by “a few bad actors.” Fourteen centuries of Islamic jihad campaigns in the historical record refute that training. Historian René-Aubert Vertot warned that Christians might become numb to the threat of “so many assaults, so little different from one another.”1 Unfortunately, it appears we have become numb.
1. Raymond Ibrahim, The Two Swords of Christ: Five Centuries of War between Islam and the Warrior Monks of Christendom (Bombardier Books, 2025), author’s note, quoting René-Aubert Vertot, The History of the Knights Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem, 5 vols. (John Donaldson, 1775), 5:41.
Raymond Ibrahim has catalogued the conflict between Islam and Christendom in a series of three books: Sword and Scimitar (2018), Defenders of the West (2022), and The Two Swords of Christ (2025). Ibrahim’s point is this essay’s thesis: one side defended Christian ground. The other attacked it.2 These military approaches follow from each religion’s mandate: Islam demands violent conquest, while Christianity upholds protection of the weak and defense of natural borders. The names change. The mandates never have.
2. Ibrahim, Two Swords of Christ, author’s note.
Listen to the other side tell you what it was doing. After taking the Templar fortress of Safed in 1266, the Mamluk sultan Baybars had this cut into the stone:
He made efforts and struggled [jahada] until he exchanged unbelief [kufr] for faith, church bells for the call to prayer, and the Gospel for the Koran.3
3. Ibrahim, Two Swords of Christ, chap. 32, Ibrahim’s translation of Baybars’s inscription after the 1266 siege of Safed.
After the sack of Antioch in May 1268, Baybars wrote to Bohemond VI, who was not in the city:
You would have seen your knights prostrated beneath the horses’ hooves . . . your women sold four at a time and bought for a dinar of your own money! You would have seen the crosses in your churches smashed, the pages of the false Testaments scattered, the Patriarchs’ tombs overturned. You would have seen your Muslim enemy trampling on the place where you celebrate the mass, cutting the throats of monks, priests and deacons upon the altars.4

If that’s not a description of religious war, nothing is. Jihad is not a metaphor for self-improvement. It is striving in Allah’s path toward the public supremacy of Islam. When the native culture hosting Islamic settlement is too strong to conquer with open war, Muslims camouflage jihad in the language of kinship, lawfare, and rights. When the host is weak, jihad wears its bolder, historic clothes. The war is unfinished because Islam’s aim was never to sit at a pluralist table. The aim was, is, and will remain to dominate the entire world.
Muhammad “was not only a prophet, but a ruler.”5 In Islam there is “an interpenetration, almost an identification, of cult and power.”6 In the Islamic construction, authority is not divided between Caesar and the church. In Islamic polity, church and state are one. Islam’s supreme rulers exercise complete and total authority over both religion and politics. Because there is no distinction between the authority of church and state, the leaders of Islamic Caliphates rule as if they have all the unbridled authority of God.7

Islam is also a totalizing religion, encompassing all other identity markers a person may have: “In the Islamic world, from the beginning, Islam was the primary basis of both identity and loyalty.” Westerners “think of a nation subdivided into religions.” Muslims “think, rather, of a religion subdivided into nations.”8 Combine this with Islam’s unification of church and state, and Muslims are all political citizens of Islam first, no matter which country they claim national citizenship in. Thus, even if a Muslim is a citizen of a western nation with a Christian heritage, they will remain at war with Christendom (both politically and religiously), so long as they remain a faithful Muslim.

Understand Islam on Its Own Terms
To understand Islam, you must understand its vocabulary.
Ummah. The transnational Islamic people bound by creed and law. Location is only a secondary consideration. The people are the movement, wherever they find themselves. A passport or green card is merely a mechanism; the ummah is the polity.
Din wa dawla. Islam’s conception of the total unity of religion and state. After the Hijra of 622, the community at Medina already judged disputes, collected revenue, commanded men, and made war. The Constitution of Medina and the raids that followed are not later corruptions. They are the founding sequence. Later fiqh, jurisprudence, did not invent the fusion. It inherited it.
Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the cleric who seized Iran in 1979 and ruled until his death in 1989, made the reality explicit, stating: “Islam is politics or it is nothing.”9
9. Ruhollah Khomeini, quoted in Lewis, Crisis of Islam, 6. Lewis’s earlier report of the same insistence is “All of Islam is politics,” in Bernard Lewis, “How Khomeini Made It,” New York Review of Books, January 17, 1985.
Sharia. Not a private dietary plan or a modest dress code. This is the claimed comprehensive law of Allah: worship, family, crime, war, testimony, inheritance, and the legal status of the outsider. To reduce it to “religious freedom for prayer rugs” is to strip the word of its reality.
Dar al-Islam and dar al-harb. The abode where Islamic law rules, and the abode of war, where it does not. Although Islam allows for the signing of treaties—dar al-ʿahd, dar al-sulh—these treaties are merely temporary pauses to war. Islam has no theology of permanent coequal citizenship between Muslims and non-Muslims.
Dhimma and jizya. The dhimmi is the Jew or Christian allowed to live under Muslim rule by tribute and legal inferiority. Quran 9:29 is not vague:
Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture—until they give the jizya willingly while they are humbled.10
10. Quran 9:29. Unless otherwise noted, English quotations of the Quran in this essay follow Saheeh International, The Qur’an: English Meanings (Al-Muntada Al-Islami, 2004).
Bat Ye’or, the historian of Eastern Christian decline under Islam, coined dhimmitude for both the status and the mechanism: jihad reduces a Christian people to dependents and, over generations, replaces them.11 That is “tolerance” as degraded existence, not equality under a common law.

Kafir. The unbeliever as a legal and theological grade, not a neighbor who happens to attend another building on his holy day. Genesis 1:27 says man and woman are made in the image of the true God. The dignity inherent in that image does not rise or fall with the shahada, the Islamic confession. Islam makes distinctions of dignity that Scripture forbids.
Jihad. Ayman S. Ibrahim of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (not to be confused with Raymond Ibrahim, the military historian) will not let Western hearers hear the word “jihad” as a mere slogan. In the Quran and the early tradition, jihad includes fighting to bring people out of unbelief. Mosque-building and daʿwa, invitation, mission, can be called jihad too. The lexical range is real, to a degree. However, the milder usage does not cancel the underlying demand for violent conquest.12 Quran 8:39 says “And fight them until there is no fitnah [disorder, persecution, or the testing that comes from unbelief] and [until] the religion, all of it, is for Allah.” Quran 9:73: “O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them.”
12. Ayman S. Ibrahim, A Concise Guide to Islam: Defining Key Concepts and Terms (Baker Academic, 2023), s.v. “jihad”; Quran 8:39; 9:73.
Naskh. Abrogation. Later revelation qualifies or displaces earlier revelation. Sura 9 (al-Tawbah, “Repentance”) is widely considered among the last revelations to Mohammed, about A.D. 631. It contains the so-called sword verse, 9:5:
And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists [i.e., non-Muslims] wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush.13
13. Quran 9:5.
It also contains 9:29, already quoted. The fact that Muslims will quote a Meccan verse of patience to a Western audience only to live out a Medinan verse of violent rule when numbers allow is not a glitch. It is Islam’s doctrine in action over time: when Muslims have enough political power, the violent Suras override the peaceful ones, just as they did in Mohammed’s own day.
Samuel Huntington (1927–2008), the Harvard political scientist, gave another version of the same observation: “The underlying problem for the West is not Islamic fundamentalism. It is Islam, a different civilization whose people are convinced of the superiority of their culture and are obsessed with the inferiority of their power.”14

Thomas Aquinas, writing the Summa Contra Gentiles about 1259–1265, isolated the authentication problem six centuries earlier. Muhammad, he argued, advanced by carnal promise and “the power of his arms—which are signs not lacking even to robbers and tyrants,” offered no supernatural signs of the prophetic sort, “pervert[ed] almost all the testimonies of the Old and New Testaments,” and shrewdly forbade his followers those Testaments “lest these books convict him of falsity.”15 A prophet only credentialed by his weapons is not the prophet of the living God.

Raymond Ibrahim’s trilogy is the campaign commentary on that structure. Three-quarters of the original Christian world, including the older heartlands of the Middle East and North Africa, Christian before they were Islamic, fell into Islam.16 That is, roughly three-quarters of the territories that were Christian under the late Roman and Byzantine empires—Syria, Egypt, North Africa, Asia Minor—are now majority Muslim. The West now holds the greatest military imbalance in the history of the conflict and, he argues, the weakest will. That combination is not peace. It is another temporary pause.

Schrödinger’s Muslim
Call the unverifiable moderate Schrödinger’s Muslim. A moderate Muslim can simultaneously be a friendly neighbor and a violent radical in waiting. First, the doctrines that undergird the name.
Taqiyya. Dissimulation, or lying. The practice is most developed in Shiʿa law, because Shiʿa lived for centuries as a minority under Sunni power. Quran 3:28 says, “Let not believers take disbelievers as allies rather than believers. And whoever does that has nothing with Allah, except when taking precaution against them in prudence.” The Hanafi jurist al-Sarakhsi, who died in 1090, defined the practice as protecting oneself by what one outwardly expresses while inwardly concealing the opposite.17 In other words, lying.
17. Quran 3:28. Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Sarakhsi, Kitab al-Mabsut, 30 vols. (Dar al-Maʿrifa, 1993), 24:45.
The Quran does not treat deceiving the outsider as a vice but rather a virtue. Quran 3:54, in Pickthall’s rendering: “And they (the disbelievers) schemed, and Allah schemed [against them]: and Allah is the best of schemers.”18 The Arabic is khayru al-makirin; the best of those who plot. A piety that names Allah the best of schemers will not hesitate to use a pleasant face as deception.
18. Quran 3:54, trans. Marmaduke Pickthall, The Meaning of the Glorious Koran (Knopf, 1930).
Raymond Ibrahim titles a chapter in The Two Swords of Christ: “Taqiyya: ‘Smile to Their Face, Hate Them in Your Heart.’”19 Medieval Christians learned that practice at bloody cost. Taqiyya can be broken into two subsets. Kitman is concealment by omission: the brochure that says, “Islam means peace,” without defining peace. Tawriya is equivocation: “We reject terrorism” can mean “we reject killing without the right imam’s permission,” not “we reject jihad.”
19. Ibrahim, Two Swords of Christ, chap. 12, “Taqiyya: ‘Smile to Their Face, Hate Them in Your Heart.’”
Erwin Schrödinger, the physicist, proposed a thought experiment in 1935. A cat is sealed in a box with a device that may or may not have killed it. Until the box is opened, the cat is treated, in the math, as both alive and dead. I call the Islamic version Schrödinger’s Muslim. Until the box is opened, until the balance of population and power changes, a Muslim professing to be moderate is both possibly sincere and a fundamentalist utilizing religiously licensed concealment. If westerners treat a Muslim’s profession of moderation as a fixed reality, we have already granted the place in society the doctrine of concealment exists to obtain.
This is not a claim that every Muslim lies about their commitments. It is a claim about analysis. Do not treat the alleged moderate as a known quantity. Treat the texts, the schools of law, the demographic behavior of the ummah, and the record of what happens when the balance of power changes. An individual Muslim’s private unease with jihad or dhimma may be real. It is not an established civic fact.
In 2023, Dearborn, Michigan, became the first large Arab-majority city in the United States and elected Abdullah Hammoud mayor. The visible pattern is a dense ummah, contested calls to prayer, halal requirements in public schools, and a political class that treats criticism of Islamic political claims as a hate crime. Greater Houston now holds the largest Muslim community in Texas. In 2024, Muslim political networks boycotted the mayor’s Ramadan dinner when he would not adopt their line on Israel. That is not a terror cell. It is an ummah practicing patience until the vote, the school board, and the complaint process do the work an army cannot yet do.20

The civic pattern is my reading of the public record, not a claim that Michigan has enacted sharia as statute. The Tactics Have Never Changed
Islam’s aims have not been rewritten. They are:
- Public supremacy of Islamic law over every rival law.
- Finality of Muhammad over the confession that Jesus is Lord.
- The ummah as the primary people, over the host nation and its religious commitments.
- Legal and social inferiority of the outsider, by formal dhimma where possible and by softer instruments where the host is still strong.
Islamic tactics scale with power.
In weakness: Meccan vocabulary. Settlement, fertility, family reunification that transplants clan structure intact, mosque networks, imported imams, daʿwa, and the demand that “Islamophobia” function as a blasphemy code. Eric Salmons has shown how Muslim extended kinship shares loyalty and property across generations, resists assimilation, keeps homeland politics at the center of household life, and makes apostasy a social death.21 That is a portable polity. It works in Amsterdam. It works in Dearborn. It will work in Houston and Minneapolis until the host community is weaker than the Islamic community.
21. Eric Salmons, “The Family Ties That Bind: How Muslim Families Impact Christian Witness and Political Discernment,” Christ Over All, June 29, 2026.
In strength: Medinan vocabulary. Speech control. Parallel norms for marriage and dress. Informal blasphemy enforcement: the riot, the canceled lecture, the employer who discovers that “diversity” does not extend toward all worldviews. The expectation is that the host will police its own tongue or the settler draws a knife.
Rupture: force. Quran 9:5 and 9:29 are not later ISIS inventions. They are in the late corpus of Mohammed’s writings and thus hold priority. Efraim Karsh’s later editions of Islamic Imperialism close as they open: the fuel of Islamic imperialism “remains as volatile as ever, and is very far from having burned itself out.”22 Medieval conquest took land with cavalry. Modern entry into the West takes land with migration, fertility, and institutional capture.
22. Efraim Karsh, Islamic Imperialism: A History, 2nd ed. (Yale University Press, 2013), 240–41.
Quran 4:24 exempts from ordinary marriage rules “those whom your right hands possess,” i.e., captives.23 Islamic law created a category in which the outsider woman does not carry the honor of the in-group. Modern grooming networks in English towns inherited that grading and applied it where the host refused to protect her. Official British inquiries, and the 2026 independent Rape Gang Inquiry associated with the MP Rupert Lowe, document the result: clan honor that punishes only in-group shame, and officials more afraid of the word “racist” than of the crime.24 The scandal is not only the offenders. The scandal is the Christian and post-Christian officials who chose reputation over their daughters.

The anthropological link is Ibrahim’s and mine; it is not a substitute for the criminal findings of the British inquiries.
Anticipate the Second Front
Raymond Ibrahim’s work not only exposes Islamic strategy. It also shows that Christian fracture is a force multiplier for jihad.
Separate peace. The Christian man who believes he can carve a better life by accommodating to Muslim interests becomes the wedge. The taifa kings of eleventh-century Islamic Spain took Christian vassalage when useful and turned when the wind changed.
Petty quarrels and mercantile interests. Venice traded with the Turks while the Hungarian marches burned. Cardinal Julian Cesarini, speaking at the Council of Basel in 1433, identified the problem: “Discord among Christians is the cause of all these calamities.”25 Gjergj Kastrioti, known as Skanderbeg, the Albanian captain who defied the Ottomans from 1443 until his death in 1468, later named the same disease from the other side: “the credulity and light beliefs of us Christians” could not stand against Turkish guile.26
25. Ibrahim, Defenders of the West, chap. 7, “Skanderbeg: The Albanian Braveheart,” quoting Cardinal Julian Cesarini’s speech at the Council of Basel (1433).
26. Ibrahim, Defenders of the West, chap. 7, “Skanderbeg: The Albanian Braveheart,” quoting Skanderbeg’s later remark on Christian credulity (League of Lezhë period, 1444).
Words without bodies. After Constantinople fell on 29 May 1453, imperial diets proclaimed solidarity but sent little help. John Hunyadi, the Hungarian commander who had held the Danube, rebuked the emperor at the February 1455 conference at Wiener Neustadt, after the April 1454 Regensburg diet produced nothing: “enough words, show us facts if you are a true Christian and a true emperor.”27
27. Ibrahim, Defenders of the West, chap. 6, “John Hunyadi: The White Knight of Wallachia.”
The enemy’s own analysis. Before that siege, Ottoman counsel stated the working assumption. Giaour (or Gaiour), from Turkish gâvur, means infidel. “The Giaours are incapable of united action against us. The Christian potentates will never unite against us.”28 Raymond Ibrahim treats that as accurate diagnosis, and so should we.
28. Ibrahim, Defenders of the West, chap. 8, “Vlad Dracula: The Dread Lord Impaler,” quoting the counsel of Zagan Pasha to Mehmed II, May 27, 1453.
The modern mutation. In the front matter of Defenders of the West, Ibrahim argues that modern Christians denounce the men whose resistance is the reason their descendants are not Muslims, that the faith has been “internalized” into passivity, and that church buildings are pawned or donated in the name of religious liberty to be made mosques.29 The Reformation recovered the gospel. It also trained many Protestants to read fifteen centuries of Christian self-defense through a hostile lens. The result is a church that will slander its own dead in order to remain respectable to the age.
29. Ibrahim, Defenders of the West, introduction.
Ferdinand III of Castile (reigned 1217–1252) stated the positive rule: “I will not wage war against another Christian land, even if I were to gain the whole world.”30 Do not make war on your brother. Do not pretend your brother will show up.
30. Ibrahim, Defenders of the West, chap. 4, “Saint Ferdinand: Savior of Spain.”
Plan for a second front. The Christian who names Islam as a political system will be isolated, defunded, and denounced by other Christians who want a private peace, or who hate the confrontational brother more than they fear the ummah. If your plan requires Christian solidarity, you do not have a plan. You have a daydream.
How the Modern West Laid Down
Two host conditions have made the hour very late in the contemporary West.
Official pluralism. A society that treats comprehensive and contrary doctrines as equal lifestyle options cannot say one is helpful and the other dangerous. It can only say, “diversity is our strength.” Inclusion offered to an empire that does not reciprocate equality is unilateral disarmament. Claims like Christ has the highest name (Acts 4:12), the magistrate is God’s servant (Rom. 13), and the image of God is in every man (Gen. 1:27) are reclassified as bad manners. Islam is not so self-loathing.
The demonstrated willingness to kill over representation. On February 14, 1989, Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa against Salman Rushdie for the novel The Satanic Verses. Translators were murdered. On August 12, 2022, the sentence was still active enough to drive a blade into Rushdie in Chautauqua, New York. On January 7, 2015, gunmen killed the editors of Charlie Hebdo in Paris for cartoons of Muhammad.
Western officials learned to fear, and so they yielded. Yielding raises the odds of immediate survival. The prime minister who condemns “intolerance” after a massacre, the dean who cancels the lecture, the bishop who offers dialogue in place of the Second Commandment: each has calculated that the man with a doctrine of blasphemy-killing is more significant than the man with a doctrine of loving your neighbor, at least as that faith is now practiced among Christians who have made “Be Nice” the Greatest Commandment.
The Western officials are not wrong. That is the problem.
There Is No Hope of Reconciliation
The Islamic system is a repudiation of confessional evangelical values, not a cousin.
Islam denies the Son of God (1 John 2:22).31 It denies the cross.32 It replaces one-flesh covenant (Eph. 5:31–32) with an abusive and polygamous sexual code.33 It degrades the image-bearer based on their belief.34 It treats the sword as an instrument of the creed rather than a limited servant of public justice.35
31. Quran 4:171; 9:30; 19:35; 112:3.
32. Quran 4:157.
33. Quran 4:3; 4:24; 33:50.
34. Quran 8:55; 9:29; 98:6.
35. On the sword: Quran 2:193; 8:39; 9:5; 9:29.
Christians have, of course, sinned throughout our history. The difference is the standard. For us, reform is a return to the apostolic deposit. In Islam, reform means violent fundamentalism.36
The Templars, founded in 1119, and the Hospitallers, whose military role hardened in the same century, were paragons of muscular Christianity: neither mere soldiers nor cloistered monks. They read Luke 22:36–38 as two swords: “a spiritual sword against spiritual enemies, and a physical sword against physical enemies.”37 Modern Christians allegorize the verse into meaninglessness and insist that faith and force are exact opposites, “to their own detriment.”38
36. Inside Islam, the four Sunni schools of law (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafiʿi, Hanbali) are the received jurisprudence. A “reform” that contradicts Muhammad and those schools is not at the core of the religion. It is a contested deviation on the margins. A strategy that waits for the marginal perspective to become the core is only empty hope.
As modern Westerners, we do not need to revive the military orders. The magistrate bears the sword in Romans 13. The church bears the Word. But we do need to urge the magistrate to exercise the sword rightly and exercise all our civic responsibilities as citizens of republics and democracies toward that end. A piety that uses only the first half of “turn the other cheek” and none of “kiss the Son” (Ps. 2:12) is not biblical Christianity. It is niceness with a prooftext.
What a People Who Will Not Yield Can Do
37. Ibrahim, Two Swords of Christ, author’s note.
38. Ibrahim, Two Swords of Christ, author’s note, on Luke 22:36–38.
If the political advantage of Islam in the West is the credible promise that resistance will be punished, the counter is a people who would rather die than yield their Christian confession in the public square. “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Mark 8:34). A church that will not risk a career, a board seat, or a neck will be governed by whoever will risk all three. Would you rather honor Christ and be hated by Islam (and others), or be ashamed of Christ and conform to modern pluralistic sensibilities?
1. Analyze jurisprudence and outcomes, not tone. Immigration, chaplaincy, interfaith platforms, and police hesitation must not rest on Schrödinger’s Muslim. Put in office men who have already decided what they will not recant. The leader who yields because yielding lengthens his lifespan is the leader the fatwa depends on.
2. Recover the right to offend Islamic claims. A republic that administers blasphemy rules through riot and human-resources departments is already collecting a cultural jizya. Protect apostates from Islam, missionaries to Muslims, and the man who will say Muhammad is a false prophet.
3. Treat immigration as constitutional hygiene. A remnant civilization may decide whom it admits. Screen for sharia-supremacist commitments. Do not transplant intact clan structures and call it diversity. Require allegiance to Christ first and to the English legal inheritance second. Neighbor-love begins with the people already here.
4. Equal criminal law, without euphemism. No “community sensitivity” exception that means unprotected girls. Record patterns. Prosecute. Britain’s failure was a failure of common sense and nerve before it was a failure of procedure.
5. Receive those who leave and preach Christ as if their souls were real. The convert loses family, housing, and work. Gaining Christ often requires the loss of important temporal goods (Phil. 3:8). Be open. Be unsentimental about false conversions. Horror at Islamist cruelty should open the Christian mouth. Only the gospel opens a grave. Do not say “we worship the same God.” Say John 14:6.
6. Education as paideia—formation, not exposure. A family, church, or school that cannot say Islam is false cannot form Christians. It forms subjects. Do not outsource sons and daughters to a system that fears a slur more than a creed.
7. Plan for betrayal inside the church. Do not wait for respectable institutions. Support the truth-teller before the isolation begins. Refuse the false peace sold as winsomeness. Do not donate sacred space in the name of charity. Keep Ferdinand’s rule: do not make war on your brother. Keep Hunyadi’s rule: words are not facts. Keep Skanderbeg’s warning: naivety is a weapon in the enemy’s hand.
8. Build households that can outlast slogans. The Islamic household is a seven-day polity. An evangelical brand that meets on Sunday will lose the block even if it wins the argument. Fathers who catechize, churches that discipline, fertility that is abundant, and membership that costs something are not extras. They are how a people remains a people.
Kiss the Son
Forever jihad means the declared Islamic holy war never ceased. Unfinished war means the object is still Christendom: the confession, the law, the household, the right to say that Jesus is Lord and Muhammad is not His apostle.
Islam will continue to present a sophisticated face in the West. The guise is strategic. The suit is not the sharia. The smile is not the sanitized prophetic biography of later Islamic public relations.
Pluralism told the church to be nice. The other side showed the world what happens when you are not nice to it and filled streets with blood. Officials did the arithmetic of their own skins. Other Christians did the arithmetic of their comfort.
The remaining task is to become the kind of people for whom that arithmetic fails because death has been priced in and the confession will not be sold.
“He who sits in the heavens laughs” (Ps. 2:4). Then He says, “Kiss the Son, lest He be angry.”
That is public theology. The question is whether we still believe it when the cost arrives.
