Wanted: Short Stories That Glorify God

By

The world needs story. Good stories. True stories. Stories that go to war with the devil. And stories that shine light into the darkest parts of the earth—chiefly, the human heart.

In 1843, Charles Dickens wrote his seasonal classic, A Christmas Carol. And ever since, this short story has, written by a man, whose faith has been underappreciated, has shaped the way Christian in Britain, America, and around the world celebrate the birth of our Savior.

Yes, A Christmas Carol is a not a story of Christ, but it is undeniably a story of an old sinner, his impending judgment, and a spiritual awakening that results in a powerful redemption and a Christmas Day spending spree that rivals that of Zacchaeus in Luke 19. In short, Dickens captures something in his story that has gripped hearts ever since. And in December, Christ Over All is dedicating a month to Christmas carols. And we need your help.

We Need You to Send Us Stories

We are looking for short stories (under 5,000 words or so) that (1) engage the theme of Christmas and (2) provide some kind of Christian lesson. Taking our cues from Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, we are looking to foster many edifying “Christmas Carols to the Glory of God.”

So, if you are a storyteller, or have a story to tell, or know someone who does, submit a story to our competition! Winners will receive a cash prize of $1,500 (1st place), $1,000 (2nd place), and $500 (3rd place).

If you are interested, the submission deadline is November 15, 2026. Questions and submissions can go to Ch*************@***il.com. Lord willing, all winners and runners-up (whom we will publish too) will be announced throughout December.

In addition, both the winners and runners-up will have their story published on Christ Over All during the month of December. Plus, we will select several stories to on our podcast, and we will invite some of the most outstanding authors to interview on our podcast.

Colleges: We Want to Send Aspiring Writers Your Way

In addition to encouraging writers directly, we would be happy to connect writers and readers to literature programs at trusted Christian schools that are equipping the next generation of Dickens, L’Engles, and Lewis’s. So, if you are a professor, a school dean, or a college recruiter and you would like to us to share your school’s writing program(s), please reach out.

Whether you are a writer, a college, or a reader, we are sure that the month of December will have plenty for you. Join us as we spend the holidays celebrating the glory of God with stories. And don’t forget to send in your submission!
