Encore: The Extremist Track Record of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on Promoting LGBTQ Immorality and Abortion

By

Editor’s Note: Christ Over All examines a different theme each month from a robust biblical and theological perspective. And occasionally we come back to themes that we’ve already covered in an “encore” piece.  In this second of a three-part series (see part one and part three), we revisit the month of September 2024 where we considered the theme of Voting to the Glory of God.

Summary: This third article of three on the 2024 election demonstrates why I have asserted that promoting LGBTQ immorality and abortion are idols for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. They are the two political issues that matter most to them. No one in the Democratic Party is more extreme. Trump is not always our ally on these most consequential issues either. Christians are right to criticize him. Yet he remains far better than Harris and Walz, especially as regards opposing both state-sponsored trans child abuse and unrestricted abortion for all nine months, as well as defending free speech and free exercise of religion for conservatives and moderates around these issues.

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have long track records regarding their extreme stance on abortion and LGBTQ promotion. No one should be fooled into thinking that occupying the White House will somehow moderate them.

On LGBTQ immorality

Harris/Walz

A greater zealot for promoting the homosexual and transgender agenda (including drag queens) you will not find in any other national politician. Were Harris elected president, she would do everything in her power to foist these lifestyle choices on your children and to take away your right to dissent, endangering your job, your church, and your home. Harris has a long track record of pushing the oppressive “LGBTQ+” agenda. For example:

  1. In 2004, as district attorney for San Francisco, following the lead of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom (who had declared same-sex marriage legal in the city), Harris conducted marriages for same-sex couples. “One of the most joyful [moments of my career] was performing the marriages in 2004. Truly joyful,” Harris told The Advocate in 2023.
  2. When Harris ran for Attorney General of California in 2010, one of the “signature issues” in her campaign was her opposition to Proposition 8, which voters had overwhelming passed in 2008 as a state constitutional amendment recognizing only marriages “between a man and a woman.” As soon as she entered office in January 2011, she issued a statement saying that she would not defend Proposition 8 in court, which violated her oath of office to defend the laws of the state. Instead, in February 2013, she filed an amicus curiae brief, arguing that Proposition 8 was unconstitutional and that the initiative’s sponsors did not have legal standing to represent California’s interests by defending the law in federal court. When the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June 2013, 5–4, that Proposition 8’s proponents lacked standing to defend it in federal court, Harris urged the U.S. Ninth Circuit to lift the stay banning same-sex marriages as soon as possible, which it did two days later. Harris herself then officiated at the first post-Proposition 8 same-sex wedding in California, marrying a pair of lesbians.

Way back in 2014, she worked behind the scenes to get the state’s Department of Corrections to change their policy about not paying for sex-reassignment surgery for prisoners.
  3. As U.S. Senator, the LGBTQ “Human Rights Campaign” called Harris one of “our community’s strongest allies in Congress” noting that she earned perfect 100 on every HRC Congressional Scorecard. She made every effort to stop Brett Kavanaugh from being put on the Supreme Court, opposing him chiefly for his perceived opposition to “gay marriage” and abortion. In 2019 she declared her support for taxpayer-funded transgender surgery for “trans” prisoners and illegal immigrants. The Human Rights Campaign applauded Biden’s choice of her as Vice President in 2020, calling her “nothing short of an exceptional choice” for advancing the homosexual and transgender agenda.
  4. Harris became the first sitting vice president to march in a “Pride” event. She also became the first Vice President to host a “Pride” event at the official residence of the Vice President in DC (which she has done for a succession of three years). And she became the first to invite someone in drag (who delivered welcoming remarks), while a transgender drag queen emceed the event. On the “2022 Transgender Day of Visibility,” Harris and her husband welcomed children claiming transgender identity to the White House, extoling their amazing courage. So committed is Harris to LGBTQ immorality that, when Biden signed into law the misnamed “Respect for Marriage Act” in December 2022, enshrining the abomination of “gay marriage” into federal law, he gifted Harris with the pen he used to sign the law.

In a 2023 interview with the LGBTQ magazine The Advocate, Harris called state elected officials trying to protect minors from chemical castration and mutilation surgery “bullies” whom she “hates.” She correlated advocacy for abortion with trans advocacy: “The intersection on the issue of reproductive care and trans care . . . is really, again, an intersection around attacks that are on an identity.” In June 2024 she hosted at the White House a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the television series Queer Eye, stressing the importance of the LGBTQ agenda for her.
  5. To kick off her 2024 presidential campaign, Harris appeared on the season nine finale of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars.” This is what Harris wants to expose children to at school on a regular basis: Drag Queens (for pictures taken with drag queens, go here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here). Her campaign advisers must have warned her that this is election-forfeiting behavior, because thereafter she has kept intentionally mum about her support for all things “LGBTQ.” A look at her official campaign page is strikingly sparse on specific LGBTQ issues, mentioning only her commitment to “always defend the freedom to love who you love openly and with pride” and to “fight to pass the Equality Act to enshrine anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQI+ Americans.” Harris likely knows that to get too specific about LGBTQ policies, especially as regards promoting transgenderism to minors, is harmful to her campaign. She is a deceiver and has changed many positions in 2024. Yet her LGBTQ stance is too much of an idol and has too much of a track record for her to lie directly about her views. The best she can do is stay low.
  6. The so-called “Equality Act” is a bill designed to put the nail in the coffin of any resistance to “LGBTQ+” (with emphasis on the T for Transgender) dominance in schools, workplaces, businesses, professions, public venues, sports, social media, and the home, with severely adverse implications for Christians schools and churches. It would enable the state to take from parents any “LGBTQ+” identified child of theirs if they did not fully endorse that self-identification, including using “trans” pronouns and names, as well as providing a “trans”-identified child with puberty blockers and cross-gender hormones that would chemically castrate the child for life. Celebration of homosexuality and transgenderism would be mandated everywhere. Dissent will be viewed as a severe civil rights violation. The Act has already been passed in the House of Representatives and it has Harris’s full support.
  7. Her views are also reflected in two recent Biden-Harris administration actions. This past July, the White House affirmed that, while “gender-affirming surgeries are typically reserved for adults,” they would oppose any categorical “bans on gender-affirming care, which represents a continuum” and any “attempts to limit healthcare for transgender individuals.” The Biden-Harris administration also is currently taking the state of Tennessee to the Supreme Court for passing a bill that protects minors from puberty blockers, cross-gender hormones, and “sex-reassignment” surgery. The Biden-Harris “Justice” Department is going after a doctor who blew the whistle on a Houston children’s hospital for secretly administering transgender drugs to minors, and performing trans surgery on them, in violation of Governor Greg Abbott’s 2022 directive. There can be no doubt that Harris supports a new California law signed by her friend Gov. Newson (a fellow San Francisco Democrat) that prohibits school districts from requiring that parents be informed of their child’s change in “gender identity” or “sexual orientation” without the child’s consent.
  8. In selecting Tim Walz as her vice-presidential running mate, she chose a rabid supporter of all things “LGBTQ” because Harris agrees with his actions. As a teacher, Walz was the faculty adviser to a high school Gay-Straight Alliance club founded in 1999, the purpose of which is to celebrate the “LGBTQ” coming out, indoctrinate the school, and paint dissenters as phobic bigots. As governor of Minnesota, Walz wrote an executive order and later signed legislation that made Minnesota a “sanctuary state for transgender minors” who can’t get access to puberty blockers, cross-gender hormones, and trans surgery in their home state, either because of state law or the absence of parental approval. He also wrote an executive order and later signed legislation that banned any therapy in Minnesota that offered help to persons who did not want to live out of a false homosexual or transgender narrative. He recently signed a bill that requires acceptance of LGBTQ values by persons applying for teacher certification, along with a commitment to incorporate this agenda in their teaching. This effectively eliminates faithful Christians from getting teacher certification in Minnesota.

Trump/Vance

Trump is certainly not everything a Christian would want on “LGBTQ+” issues. In May 2019, Trump was the first sitting Republican president to publicly celebrate Pride Month, albeit by tweets rather than by official proclamation. In 2020 Trump became the first president to name an openly gay person to a Cabinet-level position (Richard Grenell as Acting Director of National Intelligence). He has reached out to the LGBTQ “Log Cabin Republicans.” The 2024 updated Republican Party platform removed any references to marriage as a union exclusively between “one man and one woman” (there were five such references in the prior platform from 2016).

That said, he is not nearly as extreme as Harris and represents a positive good on First Amendment freedoms and ending the promotion of transgenderism to minors. He affirms the preservation of free speech and free exercise of religion for those who dissent from the “LGBTQ+” agenda.

He stated last year that “no serious country should be telling its children that they were born with the wrong gender. . . . Under my leadership this madness will end.” He condemned “the left-wing gender insanity being pushed on our children” as “an act of child abuse” and committed himself to stopping “the chemical, physical, and emotional mutilation of our youth.” That includes a commitment “on Day 1 to “revoke Joe Biden’s cruel policy on so-called ‘gender-affirming care,’ a process that includes giving kids puberty blockers, mutating their physical appearance, and ultimately performing surgery on minor children.” Further:

I will sign a new executive order instructing every federal agency to cease all programs that promote the concept of sex and gender transition at any age. I will then ask Congress to permanently stop federal tax-paying dollars from being used to promote or pay for these procedures, and pass a law prohibiting child sexual mutilation in all 50 states.

I will declare that any hospital or health care provider that participates in the chemical or physical mutilation of minor youth will no longer meet federal health and safety standards for Medicaid and Medicare, and will be terminated from the program immediately.

Furthermore, I will support the creation of a private right of action for victims to sue doctors who have unforgivably performed these procedures on minor children….

My Department of Education will inform states and school districts that if any teacher or school official suggests to a child that they could be trapped in the wrong body they will be faced with severe consequences, including potential civil rights violations for sex discrimination and the elimination of federal funding….

I will ask Congress to pass a bill establishing that the only genders recognized by the United States government are “male” and “female,” and they are assigned [sic] at birth. The bill will also make clear that Title IX prohibits men from participating in women’s sports and we will protect the right of parents from being forced to allow their minor child to assume a gender which is new and an identity without the parents’ consent.

J. D. Vance, Trump’s running mate, sponsored legislation in 2023 banning puberty blockers, cross-gender hormones, and transgender surgery for minors, along with a bill to bar the State Department from allowing the gender marker “X” on passports. He also voted no on the misnamed “Respect for Marriage Act” that established “gay marriage” in federal law.

On Abortion

Harris/Walz

No one running for high state or federal office has ever been more extreme in promoting abortion and attacking the civil liberties of its dissenters than Kamala Harris.

  1. Already as attorney general of California, she cosponsored and helped pass a state law requiring pro-life crisis pregnancy centers to advertise for abortion (eventually overturned by the US Supreme Court as a violation of free speech). She colluded with Planned Parenthood to have her office raid the apartment of undercover journalist David Daleiden to seize hundreds of hours of videos proving that Planned Parenthood knowingly sold the body parts of aborted fetuses in violation of state and federal law; then she charged him with fifteen felonies.
  2. As a US Senator, Harris always received perfect ratings from the major pro-abortion groups: Planned Parenthood and the National Abortions Right Advocacy League. She voted against both the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act” (prohibiting performance of abortions from 20 weeks on, except for rape, incest, or the life of the mother) and the anti-infanticide “Born-Alive Act” (requiring the same lifesaving medical care for infants who survive “botched” abortions that all newborns receive). Harris also called for repeal of the Hyde Amendment that denies use of Medicaid funds for abortion. She introduced and was the lead sponsor of a bill that would gut any application of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act to abortion (so no religious exemptions to doctors or nurses not wanting to be involved in an abortion).
  3. Harris was an original Senate cosponsor of the 2019 “Women’s Health Protection Act” that prohibited even post-viability state bans on abortion that lacked exceptions for the mental and physical “health” of the mother, where “health” is defined broadly as “physical, emotional, psychological, familial.” (Note that there is no instance at the point of viability where a mother’s life necessitates the abortion of her child rather than induced labor or C-section.) No provision in WHPA would restrict abortion of viable fetuses only to cases where the fetus had a low survival rate or severe abnormalities.
  4. In March 2024 Harris became the first president or vice-president to visit an abortion facility. She did so as part of her “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” tour, which made the furtherance of abortion the top priority of the then Biden/Harris ticket. The Biden-Harris “Justice” Department has stepped up prosecution of young mothers and 70+ year-old grandmothers peacefully protesting at abortion clinics, resulting in jail time of up to five years.
  5. As the Democratic nominee for President, Harris selected as her running mate the most pro-abortionist governor in the nation. Walz made his state the first to pass pro-abortion legislation after Dobbs, legalizing unrestricted abortion for all nine months of a pregnancy. He also promoted and signed a second abortion bill that made abortion taxpayer-funded and even retracted a prior law that prevented infanticide of babies that survive “botched” abortions.

Abortion dominates Harris’s campaign ads and speeches, making unrestricted abortion throughout the nation her “first priority” as President (confirmed on October 26 to a CBS news anchor). She has reiterated the necessity of passing a federal unrestricted-abortion bill. She called for getting rid of the long-standing Senate filibuster rule that requires a 60-vote majority to pass legislation, so that she can pass such a sweeping abortion bill with a simple majority. In response to an NBC interviewer’s question about religious exemptions for doctors, nurses, and Catholic hospitals, Harris stated: “I don’t think we should be making concessions when we’re talking about a fundamental freedom to make decisions about your own body.” The Biden-Harris “Justice” Department has stepped up prosecution of young mothers and 70+ year-old grandmothers peacefully protesting at abortion clinics, resulting in jail time of up to five years.

Trump/Vance

As President, Trump was used by God to nominate three pro-life Supreme Court justices that led (after he left office) to the Dobbs decision doing away with Roe and Doe, the two court cases that made abortion federally legal. Overturning Roe was the greatest judicial action in my lifetime, a miracle that I had difficulty believing would ever come to pass. Trump also did other pro-life things while he was President. He reinstated the Mexico City Policy that required foreign nongovernmental organizations to promise not to “perform or actively promote abortion as a method of family planning” using U.S. taxpayer dollars. He denied Coronavirus funds to Planned Parenthood. He prohibited family planning clinics from referring women to abortion providers if they received Title X family planning grants. He signed into law a bill that allowed states to block funds to Planned Parenthood.

He has now backtracked on abortion somewhat. As Robert George of Princeton has noted: He

has 1) promised to protect chemical abortion [i.e., abortion pills];

2) vowed to veto federal legislation protecting unborn babies [i.e., Trump insists that abortion policy should be dealt with by the states];

3) endorsed and promised to protect [in vitro fertilization], which as practiced in the United States involves the creation and discarding of vast numbers of embryonic human beings; and

4) opposed state legislation—put into place in Florida under Governor DeSantis’ leadership—to protect unborn children for whom there is detectable heart functioning [i.e., Trump thinks that it is too early a stage to forbid abortion].

That said, Trump isn’t remotely as bad on abortion as Harris. For one, Trump will still leave matters to the states. He is not going to push for a federal “reproductive freedom” bill. For another, he is not going to appoint justices who want to reinstate Roe and Doe. Moreover, he would support a Born Alive bill protecting babies who survive an abortion. He would likely support additional protection for the fetus in the viability phase. He will probably continue to be a thorn in the side of Planned Parenthood. He is not going to let the Justice Department go after pro-life protestors. He is not going to sick the Justice Department on states that put various restrictions on abortion.

Conclusion

It is astounding how long and extreme is the track record of Kamala Harris on LGBTQ immorality and abortion. While Trump is far from the ideal candidate on these issues, he is far from Harris as regards the idolatrous status that she gives them. At her deepest political core, Harris stands for the maximal imposition of transgenderism and the “gay” life, as also unrestricted abortion, on society. There is no comparing the havoc that the presidential ticket of Harris/Walz is capable of wreaking on this country through their zealous promotion of these matters abhorrent to God, including the abridgment of free speech and free exercise of religion. Harris regards faithful Christians as hateful bigots because of their opposition to the two idols of the Democratic Party. Trump does not. Failure to cast an effective vote against her would be an unconscionable neglect of moral duty.
